Are you ready for an online church?
Ephesians 4:32
Be kind and and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
God. Work. School. Family. Ministry. Leisure. Social media. In the midst of a busy schedule, It is almost second nature to miss out on the blessing of appreciation. Did you know that appreciation is not just a blessing to the receiver, but also to the one giving it? Appreciation is gratitude in action and thankful recognition. We often miss out on the truth that PEOPLE MATTER, a whole lot! It is vital that we take out time each day to show appreciation to the people in our lives that truly have excellent qualities reflected in wonderful actions.
As Ephesians 4:32 says, Being kind and compassionate includes appreciating others and not overlooking the blessing of who they are. It will make what is excellent in others belong to us as well because we will learn to embrace them with the love that they deserve. In order for something to be a blessing, there needs to be people who are being blessed. Automatically, when we appreciate what others do and who they are, we become a part of the making of a blessing. We help identify and honor those who truly are God given to us! While we're at it, we remind ourselves that we need one another and it keeps us humble. Praise God for appreciation!
Psalm 130:5-6
"I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning."
Why does God delay? Why do we have to wait? Too often we become so anxious about the next big thing that God is going to do in our lives. Many of us have promises from God spoken over us and maybe even confirmed promises that for some reason have delayed. Why is God big on waiting? During the time between the promise and the fulfillment of the promise is where we become the person that is ready for change. Without the process, many of our hopes and dreams would end up doing us more harm than good. God knows exactly what he is doing when he makes us wait. The time of waiting is time of preparation, molding, and character building. We must learn to embrace the process in order to benefit from it. You might not be in control but God sure is. Trust in him and learn in the waiting room!
Matthew 5:14-16
“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16 MSG)
I love how The Message translation of the bible says "We're going public with this" when describing how we should be a light in this world. It's so much more comfortable to keep a weekly routine of staying in the church walls. There's no challenge to speak out and there's no risk to be taken. At church, we're constantly surrounded by others who understand the reason why sing songs, lift our hands, and pray. However, once we leave the building, we are bombarded by a city of people who do not believe in the unseen God and who refuse to recognize that they have a great need for him. It's so much easier to avoid confrontation with those who don't believe, BUT it's not what we were created to be!
We were created with a purpose to take risks that no one else would. We were created to resemble a city on a hill with all its glory. A city on a hill can be seen from any point that surrounds it: Everyone will talk about it, you could never forget it, and you would most surely want a picture of it! We carry in our very souls the most amazing news that can be given to someone: YOU ARE LOVED BY THE GOD OF THE UNIVERSE AND HE PAID THE ULTIMATE PRICE TO GIVE YOU THE BEST LIFE! If we truly embrace the message that has changed our lives, we can truly make the gospel the topic that everyone is talking about, that no one can forget, and that everyone would have to take a picture of. Obviously, in order to take a picture, something needs to be going on! I challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and begin shining the light of Jesus so bright that someone just has to take a picture/video of it! That's what the Amazing Race this Saturday is about. We're going public with this and we are that city on a hill ready to share the love of Jesus with Miami! Be brave and join the movement.
Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,
and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
Ecclesiastes 9:10- Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.
You know you have a list of things that you've always wanted to do and many of us call this a "Bucket List". A bucket list is a list of things a person wants to experience or do before they die. For some reason, it is so much easier to keep saying "I've always wanted to" instead of actually doing what we've always wanted to do. Why do we hold off on doing things? If we have the capacity to do it, why do we hold off? Many times it could be a lack of resources or the fact that we don't have the time to pursue those specific goals. Ecclesiastes 9:10 reminds us that our days are numbered and there is so much in our reach to do, especially for the Lord. Some of you have secret plans of things you would love to do for God "one day". Perhaps in your heart, there has always been a desire to form a children's event, be a part of an outreach project, serve in a specific ministry, or even enroll in a bible institute. You are probably sitting there reading this and knowing that there is so much more in your capacity to do. I invite you to take out that long list of things you've "Always wanted to do" and do at least one of them by the end of the month. As for me, I can scratch off writing a blog that will speak life into the lives of all who read it. Don't wait any longer and be useful in the hands of God!
